Samples of my Work - My Personal Albums

These are some of my favorite layouts from my personal albums, starting with the most recent.  To see more of my work, check out my gallery at Pages of the Heart.

As you scroll down the layouts, you can see that I love doing a simple style with basic embellishments.  I'm quite comfortable with white pages in strap hinge albums as well as using fun paper and cardstocks for top-loading albums.  My current favorite techniques include embossing, paper piecings, tearing, tags, lots of journaling and printing on vellum.

I love using sketches for inspiration.  I keep a sketch book with very basic sketches so each time I use one, it's fresh to me.  I also love using Becky Higgins sketches... she's so creative!

11/2006 - My favorite picture of my son and my mom, taken at her office.  I'm all about mixing patterned paper these days.  I cut the tags with my Cricut (George cartridge).

11/2006 - I love how this one turned out.  I deliberately off-centered the letters on the title.  I wanted it to have an off-kilter feel to it.

11/2006 - I used my new Deluxe Designs Pages by Design tool for most of these pages and wow, it made it so easy!  And with the Cricut, I can cut many of the PBD shapes much easier.

11/2006 - This layout is pretty busy, but that's how I felt when my son was painting.  I wanted to use lots of color but not bright colors and I like how it turned out.

11/2006 - I've been holding on to that Paper Bliss popcorn for awhile now and I'm glad I got a chance to use it.  Always nice to use up older supplies.

11/2006 - Used some other supplies that were over a year old on this one, namely the vellum quote and the Heidi Grace title acrylics.

11/2006 - As with any trends, I'm getting a late start on my "Belief" album.  I know the trend is a "Faith" album, but that doesn't apply to me, so I'm making a "Belief" album in which I can explore what I believe and don't believe so that future generations of my family will know what I believed and didn't believe, and why.

The article in the layout is an editorial by Andrew Sullivan from Time Magazine from May 2006.  He discusses his dismay that politicos have tried to take over religion and thus, creating a rabid "our way or no way" group he calls "Christianists" and how they have bastardized the true meaning of God's word.  I completely agree with him and so I kept the article to include in my Belief album.  At the retreat this past weekend, I came across the article and figured now is as good a time as any to start my new project.

The circles down the left side show 5 things I've been called as an atheist, usually by people who do not even know me:  Hateful, Gay Lover, Enemy of Virtue (by Ken DeLay in the article), Baby Killer, and Anti-God.  Then I simply ask "Why?".

4/06 - Photos of my beautiful mom from about 1956, her senior year in high school, taken by her father.  The ribbon is from her stash that she gave me a few years ago.  No journaling necessary.

4/06 - Photos from 12/03, Bren "hugged" me after his bath and left a great face print.

4/06 - Bren accidentally got some egg shells into the cookie batter... that's the secret ingredient.

4/06 - Photos from 2003 of my son and I doing a craft that came with a school kit.

4/06 - Photos from our local A&W opening day.  Big news around here.  LOL!  The controversy involved the height of the sign.

1/06 - From 12/02 when we moved Bren from a toddler bed to a big bed.  Title is done on painted chipboard shapes (ribbon slide is Maya Road and letters are Making Memories).

4/06 - Photos from 10/03 when Brendan was a pony for Halloween.  The bottom piece is Heidi Grace acrylic slide, painted and the word written in silver pen.

7/05 - I completed this layout just days before my dad passed away... I don't even know if he saw it or not.

2/05 - The letter in the pocket has the history of the GameBoy, both the technology of it and its history in our family.

7/05 - That's my Aunt Noni as a teenager.  I loved how these colors go so well with both the color and black and white photos.

12/04 -My dad and my son, some favorite photos needed a special layout.  This layout is even more special now that Dad is gone.

12/04 -The big title letters are made with Shrinky Dinks.  I printed the letters (CK Long and Lanky) about 5" tall on plain paper, then traced onto the Shrinky Dink sheet, colored, punched holes, cut out and baked.

12/04 - Some fun photos of  my son.  I bought the topper at my LSS, made by a local scrapper with clay letters.

12/04 - I love this layout... great colors.  And the photos are some of my favorites from summer 2002.

12/04 - My first layout with Paint!  The photos are of my son when we caught him peeing in the cat box at grandma's house.  LOL!

12/04 - A challenge to do a Christmas layout without red or green.  I used a BH Sketch (from her first book) for this one, too.

6/04 - I heard this song on the radio and had to do a layout with some of my favorite photos.

1/04 - Still one of my favorite layouts!

The word "Mask" in the title is Stampin' Up letters embossed on a microscope slide.  The whale is chalked from a template of the whale mask then stitched with floss.

Paper piecings are my own design

1/2004 - I made this page for the design team at Pages of the Heart.  Isn't my hubby a hoot?  LOL!  No special techniques here, just a funny layout to share.
